Early Years Research

Early Years Development Instrument (EDI) & Kindergarten Parent Survey (KPS)
The EDI is a population measure of children’s developmental health prior to entering Grade 1, based on teacher ratings. Measurements have been taken in 2002, 2005, 2008 and 2010. The KPS is completed by the parents of the same children and provides context for the EDI results, as well as important information in its own right. It has been completed in 2005, 2008 and 2010.

Family Support Programs
Ontario Early Years Centres (OEYCs), Parenting and Family Literacy Centres (PFLCs) and similar programs provide supports for children and families on a drop-in basis, as well as a range of workshops and other resources.
